Most kids love bath time, but I know that mine can also get easily bored if they don’t have engaging activities. They need something that will hold their attention and keep them active, and if they’re learning in the process, that’s even better! I am always on the lookout for bath toys for my little ones, so writing this guide filled with toddler bath toys has given me some great ideas for new bath time fun!
Many toddler bath toys can be played with both in and out of the tub. Some will even work in the playroom, and most provide fun in a water table or pool as well.
Most toddler bath toys are appropriate for any age in the tub, so I didn’t categorize this guide according to age like I did the others. They will be enjoyed by older toddlers and even bigger kids, but contain no choking hazards or anything that will make them inappropriate for younger toddlers.
You’ll find this list isn’t as extensive as those in my other guides of gifts for toddlers. (See the others at the end of this post.) That is because there is not a huge amount of bath toys on the market, and many that are did not meet my standards for a gift guide.
Squirting toys for the bath are much fun, but they harbor mold, so they did not make the list. Do you already have favorite squirting toys you don’t want to get rid of? Fill the holes with hot glue to prevent water from getting in. They won’t squirt anymore, but the potential for mold will be gone!
Many bath toys do not have my minimum four star rating, so they are not mentioned. Also, when reviews indicate that a toy has injured more than a couple of children, even if it isn’t the norm, it does not make the list.

Toddler Bath Toys
Science lesson in the bathtub? Yep! This fun little toy teaches the water cycle, cause and effect, and physics. Submerge the cloud to fill it with water, then hold it up to watch it rain. To stop the rain, simply put your finger over the hole on top of the cloud. The best part about the whole thing? It comes apart to dry completely or easily clean it between baths, so no mold worries!
Crayola Color Bath Drops
Here is another bath toy that provides a great stem activity. Toddlers can learn about dissolving and mixing colors with these bath drops. What do yellow and blue make? Let’s find out! What a fun way for little ones to learn. As with any toy, the reviews were somewhat mixed. Most parents say they don’t stain the tub or their child, but a few said they do.
Little Splashers Happy Buckets Set
The little toys inside these bath balls spin and balance as the balls float and roll in the water. Fun toy for little ones in the tub! Reviews indicate that some buyers may be getting two packs of the same two toys, rather than four different ones as pictured.
Yookidoo Baby Bath Toy
My girls enjoyed this bath toy more than any other they’ve had! They loved turning the spout on and off and playing with the different cups. The only trouble we had with this toy was that they both wanted to play with it at the same time! The set we had didn’t have the gears, only the spout and cups. That looks like it would add an extra element of fun. They enjoyed this toy for about a year before it bit the dust. However, be aware that many parents complain the toy doesn’t last a year but wears out after a few months or even sooner.
These toys look like tons of fun, and indeed they are loved by all children who have tried them. Eight little rubber duck type toys that float in the tub and even better, light up (flashing) as soon as they touch the water. That would be a hit with any child, I’m sure. They do not take in water, so there shouldn’t be a concern about mold. That’s always a plus with bath toys!
The product description indicates that the battery life is about three months, and since it cannot be replaced, they just become floating toys at that point. The manufacturer says they will replace any items that arrive not working. They also added something about a one year replacement guarantee. However, I cannot find any info on the web for this manufacturer or how to actually get the replacement.
Another important thing to note: the product description says, “Using this tub toy you can make your child kid boys and girl have fun by himself in a bathroom while you’re enjoying time for yourself.” Please don’t do that. Ever. Don’t leave your child alone in the tub while you enjoy time to yourself.
This magnetic fishing set is a hit with toddlers! Just touch the fish with the bobber and pull them in. Note that though the reel makes clicking sounds when turned, it doesn’t not actually reel in the line. However, that doesn’t diminish kids’ enjoyment of this toy.
Munchkin Baby Bath Ball
Kids of all ages will have fun with this ball in the tub. It is easy enough for the littlest toddlers to grab. They can submerge it in the water and pull it up to watch the water sprinkle down. Easy to keep clean and doesn’t hold water.
Magnet Boat Set
Little ones will love driving these boats around in the tub! They contain magnets to connect the boats together, and appear to be a hit with kids of all ages. They are durable and built to last. Though some mentioned the boats getting water inside, they also praised the manufacturer for excellent customer service and willingness to send replacements.
Munchkin Lazy Buoys Bathtub Toys
This little bath set includes five pieces with a variety of play activities: two floating animals, a spinning ball, and two straining cups.
Whale Island Bathtub Toys
I LOVE this toy! Press a button to create a fountain spraying from the top. Place different pieces on the fountain to watch the toys do different things: spout water, spin around, or shoot a ball into the air. Contains a bonus mesh bag for easy, dry storage.
Swimming Turtles Floating Wind-Up Toys
There are a number of wind-up toddler bath toys on the market. However, the reviews on many of them aren’t that great. These little swimming turtles are the best value for the price. Wind them up and watch them go! It is difficult to make sure no water ever gets inside a toy like this one, but these are easy to replace because they are so affordable.
Commercially-made bath toys are great, but don’t forget the delight kids can get from simple objects already in your home. An old squirt bottle, measuring cups, and bowls can provide hours of entertainment while kids are learning about cause and effect, measuring, and pouring.
